Last week, Windak OÜ had the pleasure of hosting one of our valued customers at our production facility in Estonia. The purpose of their visit was to evaluate the progress of their project and participate in the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of their new AR32 Dual-Head Automatic Cable Spooling Machine, specifically built for telecom optical fiber cable spool packaging.

The Demanding Nature of Fiber Optic Cable Packaging
Packaging fiber optic cables is a highly sensitive operation, requiring precise control and meticulous attention to detail. The process involves several critical challenges:
Tension Control: Maintaining consistent tension is essential. Even slight variations can compromise cable integrity or lead to imperfections in spooling, impacting cable performance and durability.
Length Accuracy: Precise measurement of cable length is crucial. Errors can result in significant material waste, higher costs, and production inefficiencies.
Delicate Handling: Fiber optic cables are fragile and can be easily damaged by rough handling or inadequate spooling machines, increasing scrap rates and diminishing product reliability.
Speed vs. Consistency: Achieving a balance between operational speed and consistent cable quality remains a key challenge. Faster production speeds can exacerbate risks of cable damage if the automatic spool winding machine technology is inadequate.
Operator Safety: Manual interventions often pose safety hazards, particularly during cable spool handling and stretch wrap replacement tasks.
Windak’s Fully Automatic AR32 Dual-Head Spooler addresses these challenges by providing a robust, automated, and operator-friendly solution designed for high-quality spooling of fiber optic cables. The AR32 line offers significant advantages, including:
Precision Control: Advanced tension and length control mechanisms guarantee accurate and consistent cable handling, minimizing material waste.
Gentle Cable Handling: Specifically engineered to handle sensitive cables like optical fiber, the AR32 ensures cables remain intact throughout the spooling process.
Reduced Manual Intervention: Automated systems reduce reliance on manual handling, enhancing overall operational efficiency and significantly lowering the risk of damage or scrap.
Enhanced Operator Safety: Built-in safety features and ergonomic spool handling equipment protect operators from common workplace hazards associated with manual cable spooler processes.
Built-In Stretch Wrapping System: The automatic spooler includes an integrated stretch wrapping unit to securely fasten cable ends, enabling inline stretch wrap refills. The spooling device conveniently slides out to a safe, ergonomic working height for roll replacements, further enhancing operator safety and process efficiency.
Windak is proud to support our customers by providing intelligent, reliable, and automated spool winding and cable packaging solutions, driving improvements in production efficiency, quality, and safety.
